Biography of ONE ACCORD members
Jamie Smith Lead/Baritone
Standing here is Jamie Smith with his wife Anita whom Jamie says is the most wonderful lady he has ever met in his life! Jamie has been singing Southern Gospel music since 1991 when he joined his first gospel group called the Shepherd's of the Valley. He would sing baritone with them for 7 years. After that Jamie became worship leader and youth minister at a small local church for a few years. But he missed traveling the road and decide to join another gospel singing group. River City Quartet was looking for a baritone singer so Jamie tried out and got the part staying with them for 3 years. A few years later Jamie helped form a group called The Cross Ties and after a couple of years with them he contacted his cousin Shelby Horton and the both of them formed a Gospel Singing group called One Accord. Jamie loves the singing ministry and loves to spread the good news of Jesus Christ in song. And he also considers it a privilege to sing to any audience that will give him the opportunity. Jamie says its not for us to be recognized as anything great... but rather it is ALL for the Glory of God and to lift the name of Jesus Christ in song and let others know about the salvation the Lord offers to whoever will accept it! John 3:16
Shelby Horton Soprano
Shelby Horton has been singing Gospel music since she was 5 years old and started with her family group which was known by everyone as the Singing Mitchells' Shelby and her Dad & Mom (Lloyd & Louise Mitchel), her sister Sharon Terry and her three brothers (Danny, Darriel & Dewayne) all traveled for about 14 years to different states singing about the Good News of Jesus Christ! Shelby and her siblings all started together in this family group learning about harmony, shape notes, playing piano, etc. They went to many singing schools of music in small local churches and was taught by one of the best teachers around at that time... their Dad and Minister, Lloyd Mitchell. Even today when someone hears the name... they remember the Singing Mitchells' and how well their voices harmonized together. Gospel music has continued to be a big part of Shelby's life. She has sang as well as played piano with a few groups thru the years!Shelby took a break from singing for a few years and took care of her husband who became very sick. And then in 2018 she lost her husband of 42 years. That same year her cousin Jamie Smith called her to join him in forming a Gospel singing group and Shelby would sing the Soprano vocal part. Shelby says she loves to spread God's word in song and her goal is to see lost souls saved because that is what it's all about! May we give God the Glory for it all because He is so good!
